Gown Regulations at Middlesex
Middlesex University is a public university in Hendon, north west London. It is a member of the Million+ working group. The university’s history can be traced back to 1878 when its founding institute, St Katherine’s College, was established in Tottenham as a teacher training college for women. Having merged with several other institutes, the university was consolidated in its current form in 1992.
The bachelor gowns used at Middlesex are classified as a b4 style gown, with long, bell-shaped, open ended sleeves (see Shaw's Academical Dress Of Great Britain And Ireland 2011, Burgon Society, for more information). Masters gowns are very similar, but with longer sleeves and closed, crescent shaped ends that end around mid-calf. Both gowns are matte-black.
PhD gowns are made in the masters cut using red polyester / wool.
Mortarboard Regulations at Middlesex
Matte-black mortarboards are required to be worn by all Bachelor and Masters graduates at the university, and must be made from either wool, felt, or a blend of the two materials. PhD graduates wear matte-black PhD style bonnets with a gold cord.
Mortarboards are designed with an unfixed black tassel, which is moved from the left to the right when receiving your certificate. We are proud to be the official supplier to universities around the world of our uniquely design flexible-fit mortarboards. These are made with a foam-laminate cup, allowing the mortarboards to be flat-packed for storage, and spring into shape when removed from the packaging. This looks much better and provides for a much more secure fit than any other soft mortarboard on the market.
Hood Regulations at Middlesex
Unlike many UK universities - which differentiate hoods by level of study - Middlesex use a larger range of hood styles, with different hoods used depending upon degree and level of study.
We provide a large range of hoods for UCL bachelor, masters and PhD graduates, and work hard to ensure the colours and shapes used match the requirements of the university, so you won't look out of place. Please take a look at the full university regulations for more information.
